Introducing Be Your Own Date

Greetings! I’m Amy-Jo and I have decided to take the plunge and finally create Be Your Own Date, which is something that I’ve wanted to do for quite some time now. If you have even the slightest interest in self-care - in all its forms - you are in the right place! And if this is something that you haven’t really considered before, have a read and see what you think, as I hope it resonates with you.

For me, self-care is all about being kind to myself by putting time aside for reflection and doing things to promote my wellbeing and self-development. And to simply feel good, even when I may question myself, lack confidence in certain situations or make mistakes. It’s also about looking after myself today and in the future, which is why I have started to focus more and more on my financial wellbeing, as much as my physical and emotional wellbeing, and how I stay connected to the different people in my life - we are social beings after all.

Through Be Your Own Date, I would also like to share my fun side and the things that I enjoy on a day-to-day basis, including life’s little comforts and luxuries. At a time of such upheaval and uncertainty, taking the time to practice self-care and experience some much deserved “me time” - to effectively date yourself - has never been so important, hence my affinity to the concept of Be Your Own Date

Having earned a PhD in Social Psychology and worked in mental health and social care in the past, wellbeing is often at the forefront of my mind and I can see that its importance has become increasingly valued and accepted. I have since expanded on the meaning of wellbeing and how it relates to the different areas of my life, which I think is, in part, motivated by my shift to working in the private sector, and growing my business and financial acumen along the way.

As a former C-suite Executive Assistant (alongside coaching and blogging), I particularly enjoy being able to utilise my expertise in communicating and building relationships with people from all walks of life to execute various tasks, often needing to think one step ahead! Though, as much as I am career focused and committed to making a meaningful contribution to my community, I also prioritise my downtime, whether I’m being super productive, catching up on my favourite tv shows and watching films, or frankly not doing much at all!
